While complaining to my Dad recently that my money seems to evaporate, he asked what I spend my money on, and suggested that with closer examination, I might be surprised where it goes. Since I don't consider myself a frivolous person (though I think most of us don't...and we live in a frivolous society), I just said rent, food, utilities, Zumba, and Starbucks (yeah, I know that's non-essential...usually!). I don't see myself as trend addict or shopaholic, so clothing didn't even cross my mind.
....Then today while innocently on a sun basking walk in Whittier, I spotted Nine Steps, a nice little store. I've started noticing that American made clothes are easier found in small boutiques, so I popped in. Lo and behold, they had Made in USA shirts, nice dresses, and SPANDEX! Yes! I haven't found any spandex type leggings (just cotton), so of course, I had to get a pair, then I saw the cutest green spandex sporty jacket, too! Well, you know how the story ends. I'm now two items richer in American made Spandex-wear, but $60 poorer in cash. I think this might be where my money goes when I'm not paying attention. I probably justify it because Made in USA is a good cause, but maybe I should stop complaining about my funds escaping me.
Hello! I'm a 30 year old gal with a liking for doing year long projects. I've done a year without any form of chocolate, a year without coffee shops, and 5 years without gum (and I LOVE chocolate, coffee shops, and gum)! A year wearing only American Made should be the hardest yet, though*.
