Today I was going to write about something unimportant, like a hole in my American tights, or the fact that I'm out of American made underwear, and had to wear a bathing suit instead. But then I thought about my sister-in-law.
My sister-in-law is Venezuelan, and my family has heard about horrible corruption and discrepancies in their political process for years, but even more now. Their president, Hugo Chavez, died recently, and the law is that if the president dies, there needs to be a reelection in one month. Rumor says that he actually died in December, but his party kept it secret to buy time to rig the election. For the election on Sunday, votes were bought, trashed, and voters were watched over and told how to vote. All evidence points to a rigged marginal win for Chavez's successor.
I disagree with some things in America, like that most of our products made overseas, but I'm happy that we don't live in a corrupt country. I hope the Venezuelan people get a better political system one day, and they can feel safe and prosperous in their own country.
Hello! I'm a 30 year old gal with a liking for doing year long projects. I've done a year without any form of chocolate, a year without coffee shops, and 5 years without gum (and I LOVE chocolate, coffee shops, and gum)! A year wearing only American Made should be the hardest yet, though*.
