Today I woke up to an email from American Apparel touting the benefits of buying Made in USA. It said that the average hourly wage at American Apparel is $12/hour+benefits ($8 is the California minimum wage), whereas the average wage abroad is 20 cents an hour. Yow. It's kind of alarming.
Also, I just learned that at a Chinese doll factory, the hours are 6 days a week, 7 am-10 pm. Crazy. I don't even know how people have a life working those types of hours. I would definitely not have time for this project if I worked those hours. In fact, right now I would be working.
So I agree with American Apparel. It's most important to buy American made. I just wish American Apparel had slightly cuter clothing.
Hello! I'm a 30 year old gal with a liking for doing year long projects. I've done a year without any form of chocolate, a year without coffee shops, and 5 years without gum (and I LOVE chocolate, coffee shops, and gum)! A year wearing only American Made should be the hardest yet, though*.
