OMG! What?! I'm engaged to my trusty Editor-in-Chief! And yes, the ring is Made in USA! He got it custom made by a jeweler in Downey, CA. Sweet!
On the way to San Pedro where IT happened, we drove by the Long Beach port, which is either the 2nd or 4th largest port in the country depending on which website you believe. I could not believe how many containers there were. Stacks and stacks for acres just of stuff being shipped across the ocean. So crazy! According to wikipedia, 44,619,556 tons are imported through the port per year, versus the 17,895,852 tons that are exported. It's a pretty sharp contrast. I wish it was more balanced with Made in USA product. On the other hand, I read that the port of South Louisiana (#1 USA port) has more exports than imports, so all isn't lost!
Hello! I'm a 30 year old gal with a liking for doing year long projects. I've done a year without any form of chocolate, a year without coffee shops, and 5 years without gum (and I LOVE chocolate, coffee shops, and gum)! A year wearing only American Made should be the hardest yet, though*.
